How to Make a straightforward A-Frame Picnic Table
Standard 6ft "A" Frame Picnic Table
This basic table is tried and true and has been around for many years and as a piece of outdoor furniture it will improve your patio.. It is very straightforward to construct and will last for years.
It comes in many distinct designs. This one is made solely of 2*4 dressed, treated lumber.
Equipment Required
It could be made with a hand saw and miter box however it would be easier with an galvanic circular saw. (Or even a drop arm miter saw.)
A hammer. A square. A small hand plane. Adjustable spanner. Tape measure.
A drill with a 3/8 bit. (2 1/2" holesaw)
Materials list
117 ft 2*4" dressed treated lumber (pine)
8 3/8" * 4" galvanized carriage bolts
Approx 110 3 1/2" galvanized flathead nails
Cutting list
1) Seat & table top 14 pieces @ 72" (1830mm) cut square
2) Seat supports 2 pieces @ 63" (1600mm) 60 degrees opposite angles
3) Table sustain 2 pieces @ 29" (735mm) 60 degrees opposite angles
4) Legs 4 pieces @ 33" (840mm) 60 degrees parallel angles
5) Braces 2 pieces @ 24" (610mm) 45 degrees opposite angles
6) Table cleat 1 piece @ 29" (735mm) 60 degrees opposite angles
7) Seat cleat 2 pieces @ 10 1/2" (265mm)60 degrees opposite angles
Instructions
1) Cut all the lumber as per the cutting list.
2) On a flat outside make up one of the end frames to the measurements in the diagram. Tack it together with nails.
3) Make up the second end frame so that it is a excellent match of the first.
4) If all measurements are ok, drill the 8 holes and bolt the frames together.
5) Stand the frames up with the legs on the inner side facing each other. Place one of the table top pieces on the outside edge and tack in place 7" from the outside edge. Then tack the other outside table top board in place.
6) Check the length between the legs. Adjust and then tack in place the 2 outer seat boards also at 7" from the end.
7) Check for square. (Measure corner to corner.) Check to see if 8 boards are going to fit on the table top. (Some lumber varies a petite in width.) If ok, nail in place all of the table top and the seats so that the 2*4's are hard up against each other.
8) Mark the center of the table top and fit the table cleat underneath. This is on its flat side. Nail in place from the top.
9) Mark the center of the seats and nail in place the 2 seat cleats from the top.
10) Turn the table upside down. You now need to make sure that the end frames are square and vertical. Use your square. Tack a temporary brace to make sure it doesn't move. Now fit the 2 braces. These you have cut to 45 degrees. One end will be attached to the seat sustain and the other to the 2*4's of the table top.
11) Turn back upright. Nail the braces from the top and the ends as well. Tidy up the furry edges with a hand plane.
12) If you require an umbrella hole you will need a 2 1/2" hole saw to drill a hole in the center of the table.
13) Enjoy.

Large Picnic Table Plans - How Large of a Picnic Table Do You Need?
If you have a big family, a standard, four to six seater picnic table is not going to fit everyone. You need something that fits more people. How do you find the best large picnic table plans to meet your needs?
When I embarked on our table building journey, I first figured out how many population the table needed to fit. For us, we have six population in our family. We also sometimes have guests over. So a few of the options I determined were an octagonal table, which seats eight, a large table, or production more than one table.
An octagonal table is both involving and large. However, the sides can be a diminutive narrow if you are seating folks over 200 pounds. I would make sure to leave the benches detached if this is the case, so each person can scoot their bench out as far as necessary. One of the nicest features of this type of table is that each person has their own defined space. The biggest drawback is that you are diminutive to eight people, so if you are involving more than that, you need a second table.
A large picnic table can be beneficial as well. It unquestionably is easier to make than an octagonal table. You can also seat as many population as will fit on the bench. If any are small, you can fit quite a few! However, it can get a diminutive crowded and involve a lot of elbow rubbing.
For us, I decided to build a large picnic table for the adults, and a children's table. If I were to do it again, I would have built an adjustable folding table instead of a children's table. That way, we would be able to use the folding version as long as my craftmanship holds up. I did use a set of large picnic table plans in order to avoid a repeat of my first time building the kid's table.

Tablescapes - A ornamental landscape For Your Table
Landscapes... Interiorscapes... Plantscapes... Tablescapes...
"Tablescape" is a relatively new term used in interior decorating. It is defined exactly as one would think- a scenery for your table. This, of course, encompasses a large area to play with. It could be as uncomplicated as a floral centerpiece, or as explicate as a theatrical production for a buffet or photo shoot.
How many of us neglect the most focal piece of furniture that we have- the dining room table? Has your table become a dumping ground for mail, homework, craft projects? Do you push your daily life aside, just to be able to sit and eat a meal together?
These are just a few reasons that we should treat our dining area, either it's in a dining room, kitchen, patio, or other area with tender loving hands. Who knows- you may even find time to sit with your house again!
With these ideas, tips, and trends- you will be able to generate tabletop masterpieces in minutes! Using what you have on hand, buying new, and reinventing the existing pieces you already own, puts a whole new spin on things. Decorate your table for special occasions, holidays, seasonally, or "just because", and reconnect with the most basic element in a household- the house meal.

Spring Pruning Party
It's a beautiful spring day, and I have a blank table in front of me. After pruning a few red and yellow twig dogwood bushes, I am inspired to re-arrange my table!
Pruning my shrubs all the time leads to a new look in my house!
I cover the table first - I love linens, and use them regularly. This time I am going to choose an aged quilt of my great grandmother's that is collecting dust in my linen closet. The soft yellow color and rosettes will work well for this theme. Mix it up from your own stash of linens. A tablecloth, lace curtains, bedding- all will work as a cover-up.
If you have an exceptional table, possibly just a runner or table square will do the trick. I all the time use runners and/or placemats on the diagonal on my rectangular table. By setting up my "mini tablescape" on one end of the table, I do not have to remove it every time we sit down to eat.
Now, back to my pruning...
I procure the yellow twig dogwood (pussy willows or flowering branches would be great for this also) in a clear vase with river rock on the bottom. Absolutely switch out the rocks with marbles, aquarium gravel, dried peas or lentils, anyone that you have in your pantry or closet. No need to add water- they will stay intact as is. This is your tallest piece, so do not be afraid to let the twigs and vase soar to the ceiling, ideally 3' or more from the table top.
What else do I have in the house? A pretty cake plate in white ceramic will do the trick. If you do not own a cake plate, take a canning jar (I love the shape of these and use them for everything), turn it upside down and put a pretty plate on top of it. Instant cake plate at the height we need! What to put on the plate? Back to the garden- an empty bird's nest will work. Spray this for miniature creatures, or buy one at the craft store. A soft "nest" of ribbon to set it on, or realistic eggs to scatter are part of the look. Remember- this is not Easter, so go Spring-like with the eggs.
Position this next to the vase with your "prunings". We now need a third item of a different height. I may fill a colander or bowl with Granny Smith Apples for the color pop, or scatter candles colse to the base of the cake plate. Using three objects of varying heights balances your main centerpiece on this tablescape.
Pull out that fine china, and use it! If it is not dishwasher safe, and a real drag to wash- use the large plates as a charger plate underneath your daily china. The table will all the time appear set, since the charger can stay in place, while you wash the other plates. If you have multiple sets of dishes, mix up the patterns and stay in soft tones of color for our Spring- like feel. Now is the time to use that floral pattern from Grandma, the fiesta ware in multiple colors, or the all-white palette.
If this is a special occasion tablescape, and you are using party favors, think terra cotta pots from in the garage. They have been sitting there all winter, screaming to be filled and used at each place setting! A pretty fresh primrose plant purchased at the orchad town will kick the table up a notch.
For daily tablescapes- you can still apply the primroses, or small flowering plant in your centerpiece. I am a firm believer that fresh flowers make all special, and these can be planted face when the weather is right.

A wheelbarrow filled with ice for a makeshift bar
