If you are like my husband he likes to have projects that he can start on Saturday morning and quit by Sunday afternoon. He will spend all weekend working at it while enjoying the outdoors and having a few beers. By the time Sunday night comes nearby he is ended and is the proud owner of a new creation. An octagonal table is one with eight sides, commonly seating one man per side. These usually have attached benches. You could probably make detached benches, but it would take a lot more work. You can also get octagonal picnic table plans that allow for an umbrella in the middle of the table.

The biggest dissimilarity between manufacture an octagonal table and manufacture a regular table is that an octagonal table requires a lot more cutting. You need to trim each board into the strict shape, which involves some different lengths of lumber and angle cuts. So for this project, you may need a miter saw. As with every woodworking project, make sure you quantum twice before you cut!

Like most tables, you start with building the frame first. The frame is similar to a circular picnic table. Next, make the table top. One helpful hint for the table top: make it in eight equal sections. Then you just attach the sections to frame, and your table looks great! When you attach the table top, use a drill to generate pilot holes for your nails. This will preclude the wood from splitting - all the time a pain after you've already put part of it together!
